Once More Unto the Breach

A panoramic shot of London from my Flickr site
It's been a while since I did any blogging. Truth be told I was fed up with it... fed up with the loons I ended up having pointless arguments with, fed up that feeling of obligation to write something regularly, fed up with looking at the stats and blog rankings, fed up with the plethora of campaigns I got involved in (which always required adding another badge or button to an increasingly cluttered page), fed up with the spam comments... It all became too time consuming and, more importantly, no longer fun.

So why return to it then? Well, there are aspects of blogging that I like. I enjoy writing, it's good mental exercise. Also the act of putting thoughts into words in the form of an on-line diary can be useful. I like Facebook too but it isn't really designed for much more than a few words (there's quite a lot I don't like about Facebook but that's for another time).

The problem I was having with blogging I think stemmed from trying to specialise in particular subjects. I had a blog for politics, another for my interest in ancient history and so on. This time I'm trying a different approach...one blog covering whatever is on my mind at a particular moment that gets updated whenever I feel like it and have the time. I'll post musings on music, photography, politics, history, radio, cats, or anything else that appeals to me. Or I'll just be damn lazy and link to things I've seen that I find interesting. Postings may be frequent or they may not. By removing the obsessive tendency blogging can generate, it may become fun again.
